one of my paragraphs is going to be on the insignificant lives that Daru and Winston play in their worlds. It is going to discuss their work and their roles that they play in society. I found a really good quote in 1984 but I have yet to find a quote from "The Guest". Any help? It would be appreciated. Thanks

For my paper, the three main points that I am focusing on are the similarities between Winston and Daru relating to their struggle with the concept of free will, the difficult choices they make, and the consequences that arise from their actions. Here is a website that provides a clear, in-depth explanation of the philosophy of Existentialism. This was helpful for me in recognizing common Existentialist traits between Winston and Daru: http://www.allaboutphilosophy.org/existentialism.htm (Albert Camus is actually briefly mentioned in the article.) Also, here is a quote from Albert Camus' "The Guest" that I felt really emphasizes Daru's internal struggle when he is trying to decide what to do with the Arab prisoner: "That man's stupid crime revolted him, but to hand him over was contrary to honor. Merely thinking of it made him smart with humiliation. And he cursed at one and the same time his own people who had sent him this Arab and the Arab too who had dared to kill and not managed to get away."

Thanks so much for the website, it helps out alot. I now understand the existentialism in both Winston and in Daru ans well as there differeces in existentialism. I am confused however, of how to set up this essay. I feel the way I have it in my outline is not the best organzation piece. Anyone have a suggestion as to how to organize the paragraphs in a way to make sense? That would help out alot, thanks.

for the person who wants to setup the paper ill tell you what im doing to give you an idea. In the introduction I'm gonna talk about what I will going to cover and stuff. 2nd paragraph I'm going into existentialism, what it is about, and how people relate to it and things like that. Next two paragraphs ill talk about winston's involvement in existentialism then darus. The conclusion im restated basically all what i said in the paper withing like 3 sentences. Maybe that will help you hopefully

If you have time…To understand more about Daru, I suggest looking over this document: http://web.ebscohost.com/ehost/pdfviewer/pdfviewer?hid=111&sid=b4e846f3-3e0b-4bbb-bc20-fc0672e844a3%40sessionmgr115&vid=2 . I still don’t have all my quotes to include in the essay, but I started searching for those that satisfy the 5 concepts of existentialism on the back of “The Guest” study guide.
